Newcomers Committee
The Newcomers Committee runs various programs designed to welcome new members to the church. Generally, a newcomer is anyone who has attended services at Calvary for one year or less, but this definition is flexible.
Greeters greet at 9:00 and 11:15 services, keeping an eye out for new people to welcome them and involve them in conversation and address their interests and needs. Fellowship provides refreshments for the parish at 10:00 every Sunday. Most of the Newcomers Committee members are involved in Fellowship as well.
This year the Newcomers Committee hosted two pot-luck dinners for new people to get to know clergy, greeters and vestry. These are interspersed with the two clergy sponsored brunches held for new people. Committee members help with these as needed.
Two of our members conduct porch visits: Each new person is visited by one of our porch visitors bearing home-baked goodies and church brochures. We also make phone calls: Another team of two is beginning to make a phone call to each visitor.
A bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall is dedicated to newcomers and their activities. We have a camera now and are making desultory efforts to get photos of new people. The name tag holder was completed by David Allen.
We focus on newcomers, but believe that our work benefits the whole parish membership through our interactive activities. After all, we were all newcomers once.
